Cahuita National Park
The Cahuita National Park is a protected natural area, located in Costa Rica in the Limon province, about 43 kilometers from the Limón city; this park has an area of land 1067.9 ha and 22400 ha of marine zone, the main objective to create this park was the protection of flora and fauna, coral reefs and various marine ecosystems. The Cahuita National Park is considered one of the most scenic beauty of the country parks for its beaches, turquoise blue sea and the coral reef. Here you can find several areas of life such as tropical rainforest, mixed forest, mangrove and coastal vegetation. The coral reef covers an area of 600 ha and extends in front Punta Cahuita, between the Perezoso river and Puerto Vargas, a great part of this reef is submerged to about 11 meters under the level of the sea; some studies conducted after the earthquake of April 22, 1991, the reef emerged one meter; this reef is the most developed on the Costa Rica Caribbean coast, in this area it is possible to find a great range of tropical fish with bright colors and striking like the angelfish, isabelita, the blue parrotfish, barracuda, manta, 3 species of sharks and eels; all are included in the list of permanent residents of these waters, for a total of 123 fish species reported for this park; 35 corals species, 140 mollusks, 44 crustaceans and 128 algae; which is why this place is ideal for snorkeling. In addition, it is possible to find a great variety of terrestrial animals like raccoons, crabs, monkeys, birds, coatis, frogs, snakes and many insects.
The Cahuita National Park is a relatively rainy region with a poorly defined dry season, has the highest humidity in the country, between 84% and 88% and high rainfall rates between 2500 and 3000 mm, and its temperature varies throughout the Year between 20 ° C and 31 ° C along the entire coast.
